MONUMENTAL TOURNAMENT OF ACES
Monumental Tournament of Aces 2009Think you’ve got an ace up your sleeve?
Both Nathan Hylton and Dayne Poffenroth celebrated a hole-in-one at the inaugural Monumental Tournament of Aces. With friends of the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation set to host the second instalment of the one-of-a-kind fundraising event on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Cochrane Golf Club, you have a chance to do the same. Once again, each hole will be converted to a Par-3 with three pin placements, meaning golfers will have numerous chances to achieve something Lindsay always strived for ... perfection.
Hylton and Poffenroth had first dibs at the prize table, but the biggest winners at the inaugural Monumental Tournament of Aces were the many organizations and individuals supported by the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation. At last year’s tournament, friends of the foundation raised $108,000 to donate to the Spray Lake Sawmills Recreation Society to help fund the construction of two new arenas in Cochrane, giving hundreds of youngsters increased opportunity to play hockey and ringette — two sports Lindsay loved. In addition, The Lindsay’s Kids Hockey Sponsorship funded registration and equipment so three young athletes could hit the ice with Cochrane Minor Hockey last season. The Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation also provides $1,000 valedictorian scholarships at both Cochrane High School and Bow Valley High School and the $2,525 Dr. Lindsay Kimmett Prize in Emergency Medicine, which will be presented annually to a graduating medical student at the University of Calgary.

Lindsay was tragically taken as a passenger in a single-vehicle rollover on February 17, 2008, at the age of 26. Today, her legacy lives on not only in the hearts of family, friends and former teammates and classmates, but through the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation. An avid Flames fan, Lindsay found success in every arena of life. She was an aspiring emergency room doctor, a tireless volunteer, a member of three hockey teams and had already scaled the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. A decade after taking the stage as Cochrane High’s valedictorian in 1999, Lindsay was awarded a posthumous medical degree from the University of Calgary in May.

While her favorite sport required two nets and a sheet of ice, Lindsay didn’t mind golf, so long as the Oilers were booking spring tee-times before her beloved Flames. Through events like the second annual Monumental Tournament of Aces, the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation will continue Lindsay’s legacy of making the world a better place.
